Lewelling Book-a-Rama Winner: MacKenzie Adams was the winner of Book-a-Rama contest. McKenzie will receive a new bicycle compliments of the Milwaukie Lions. Over 500 books were read by approximately 50 students participating in the program over the Christmas holiday break.

LION'S PRIDE AWARD: On 1-21-08, DG Jim Jaggers presented Tom Hammond and Al Scott with the Lion's Pride Award during the District Governors official visitation.

MILWAUKIE LIONS PEACE POSTER WINNER: On Nov. 13, 2007, Megan Gallagher was announced as the winner of the Milwaukie Lions Peace Poster contest. Her poster is being submitted for judging in the Oregon Lions 36-O District contect.

    HELEN KELLER AWARD GIVE TO FRED McNAUGHTON JR. On June 18, 2007, the Milwaukie Lions awarded Fred McNaughton Jr. the Helen Keller Award for his service to our community!

    BOY SCOUT HARRISON SHOBERG RECEIVES THE MILWAUKIE LIONS COMMUNITY HERO AWARD. Harrison was presented the award on 2-5-07 for his volunteer work in recycling eyeglasses. He presented the Milwaukie Lions Club with 367 pairs of eyeglasses that he collected for his Eagle Scout Project. The eyeglasses will distributed free in lesser developed countries.

    The HOBY Youth Leadership Seminar was held on June 16-18, 2006 for sophmore students selected by their school and sponsored by Lions Clubs, Kiwanis Clubs, and other groups. 108 students from all over the state participated in the event. The Milwaukie Lions sponsored, Michael Falconer and Sam Wasco from the Waldorf School. Sam was one of two students selected to attend the World Wide Hoby Conference in Washington, D.C. Congratulations to Sam!!! Michael and Sam will share about their experiences at our 3-5-07 meeting.

    INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT'S CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION AWARDED was presented to Fred McNaughton Sr. on July 17, 2005 for his 65 years of service to his community as a Lion. Fred is a charter member of the Milwaukie Lions.

    INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT'S CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION AWARDED: At the District 36-O Convention on Feb. 26, 2005 District Governor Keith Price presented Lion Al Scott with the International President's Certificate of Appreciation.

    MOBILE SCREENING UNIT: The Milwaukie Lions are sponsoring the Mobile Screening Unit on Sat., Feb 9th at the Milwaukie Healing Place (Milwaukie Providence Hospital) from 9 am to 3 pm. Free health screenings for diabetes, vision, hearing, high blood pressure, cholestorol, and glaucoma. The hospital is also sponsoring a free immunization clinic for children at this event.

    HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE: The Milwaukie Lions 2007 annual holiday food drive was a great success. Over 600 families received holiday food baskets this Christmas season.

    BOOK-A-RAMA PROGRAM: The Milwaukie Lions are sponsoring a Book-A-Rama reading program at Oak Grove Elementary School this spring break. Lewelling Elementary School had their Book-a-Rama program during the Christmas break. It was a great success!

    OUR SCHOOL SPONSORSHIP NEEDS: Please bring the following items to our meetings for Seth Llewelling and Oak Grove Elementary School: Jan.- Scarfs, Feb.- Glue sticks, crayons, paper, Mar.- Pencils, erasers. Thank you helping to support those in need at our schools.

    2007 GOLF TOURNAMENT A GREAT SUCCESS: The Milwaukie Lions and the Charbonneau Lions annual golf tournament was a great success. Over $6,000 was raised for charity!!!!

    FLAGS FOR FIRST GRADERS: On 5-11-07, 102 American flags were presented to the first graders at Oak Grove Elementary School at a special assembly for the first grade classes. 26 American flags were also distributed for the school staff. PID Dennis Tichenor gave a short lesson about our wonderful flag. Milwaukie Lions Tom Hammond, Becky Scott, Al Scott, and Dennis Tichenor presented flags to the students. Each child left the assembly with a smile their face and a flag in their hand!

    FREE HEALTH SCREENING: The OR Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation's Mobile Health Screening Unit was at Alder Creek Middle School on 2-10-07. People were screened for vision, hearing, high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, and cholestorol. Seventy-one people received free screenings. Fifty-one potential health issues were found.

    2006 HOLIDAY FOOD BASKET PROGRAM was a great success. Aproximately 560 families were served this Christmas season. Over 55,000 cans of food were collected. A special thanks to the North Clackamas School District, Milwaukie Elks Club, the Nob Hill Lions Club, the Boy Scouts, and others for helping to make this a great success for our community.

    ANNUAL BBQ PICNIC: On 8-21-06, the Milwaukie Lions had their annual BBQ Picnic at Doc Storment's home. Everyone had a wonderful time. A special thanks to everyone who brought school supplies for Oak Grove Elementary School!

    SCHOOL SUPPLIES COLLECTED: At our 8-7-06 meeting a huge basket of school supplies were collected for Seth Lewelling Elementary School. On 8-21-06, a large amount of supplies were collected for the Oak Grove Elementary School.

    MILWAUKIE & CHARBONNEAU LIONS ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT was held on 8-12-06. A special thanks to all of our sponsors, golfers, and volunteer who helped make this event a success.

    Seth Lewelling Elementary presented a wonderful program to our club on 2-20-06. The school is an enviromental magnet school in the North Clackamas school district. Our club was thanked for their support of Seth Lewelling over the years.

    "Statue of Liberty Presentation" On 10-3-05, Mr. Dan Ross shared a photo powerpoint presentation about Milwaukie's Statue of Liberty at our meeting. It is the largest replica of the Statue of Liberty this side of the Mississippi. Please drive by Roethe Rd. and McLoughlin Blvd. to see this special gift to our community. A special thanks to Christopher Car City and it's owners.

    MILWAUKIE/CHARBONNEAU LIONS ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT was held on Friday August 12, 2005. It was our most successful tournament ever. Approximately $6,000 was raised for charity!!

    PARAPLEGIC WOMAN HELPED BY MILWAUKIE LIONS IN AUG. 2005: The Milwaukie Lions were contacted to see if they could help install some appliances which were donated to a recent paraplegic woman. Milwaukie Lion Paul Miller and his brother, Neil Miller were able to intall an icemaker/water refrigerator and a new dishwasher in the woman's home to make life more comfortable for her and her children. Another example of "WE SERVE".

    SIGHT & HEARING REPORT: During the fiscal year 2004-2005, the Milwaukie Lions provided free eye exams for 26 people, eyeglasses to 40 individuals, hearing aids to 5 people, and provided 3 hearing aid repairs!!!!

    SECOND PLACE AWARD!!! On July 23, 2005, the Milwaukie Lions received the second place award in the Milwaukie Riverfest Daze Parade! Lions marching in the parade distributed hundreds of organ donor cards.

    The Milwaukie Lions hosted the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation's Mobile Screening Unit at Alder Creek Middle School on Sat., June 4, 2005. Free preventative health screenings for vision, hearing, high blood pressure, diabetes, and glaucoma were provided for the public. screenings. In addition to the free health screenings, there were free sports physicals available for children in grades 6th to 12th compliments of Providence Milwaukie Hospital.

    EYEGLASS RECYCLING: Please recycle your used eyeglasses and hearing aids in Milwaukie at the Milwaukie Ledding Library 10660 SE 21st St., the Oak Grove Day Care 1900 SE Oak Grove Blvd., Chan's Steakery 10477 SE Main St. and the Hillside Manor lobby.

    USED CELL PHONES AND EMPTY INK JET AND LAZER JET CARTRIDGES NEEDED: The Milwaukie Lions are collecting old cell phones, ink jet cartridges, and lazer jet cartridges to recycle as a fundraiser for their club.     ADOPTED SCHOOL: The Milwaukie Lions are continually supporting their adopted school, Seth Llewelling School. In March, over 50 boxes of Kleenex type tissues were collected for the school. Please bring any of the requested items to our regular meetings. This year in addition to the tissues, the Lions have supplied 45 pairs of childrens gloves, 24 scarfs, many stocking hats, and numerous personalized bookmarks for the school office to distibute to those students in need.

    The Milwaukie Lions hosted the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation's Mobile Screening Unit at Milwaukie High School on Sat., January 29, 2005 from 9 am to 4 pm. Free preventative health screenings for vision, hearing, high blood pressure, diabetes, and glaucoma were provided for the public. Seventy people were screened for health issues. Six people were found to have elevated blood pressure. Nine people had vision problems. Two children were referred to the KEX Needy Kids Fund for assistance for eyeglasses. Seven people were referred for further glaucoma testing. Five people had elevated blood sugar levels. One person had a blood sugar count of 307. Four people had hearing loss indicated by the screenings. In addition to the health screenings, there was an immunization clinic for children inside the school sponsored by Providence Milwaukie Hospital.

    On Jan. 8th, 2005, The Milwaukie Lions hosted an Eyeglass Sorting Party at Port City Development on N. Williams St. in Portland. Approximately 5,000 pairs of eyeglasses were sorted that evening for the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. A special thanks to all the volunteers who sorted eyeglasses!

    2004 HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE: Approximately 50,000 cans of food were collected for our annual food drive. We had 550 food baskets with a large sack of canned goods, poultry, 5# potatoes, 2# carrots, onions, and toys for the children in the family. We want to thank the Milwaukie Elks and the North Clackamas School District, and all of the other volunteers for making this project a success!!

    CHRISTMAS PARTY SERVICE PROJECT: At our 12-6-04, Christmas Party, our club made 24 children's scarfs for needy children at Seth Lewelling Elementary School. A special thanks to Alysa and Helen McNaughton for planning this service project!! At our 1-3-05 meeting, we made personalized bookmarks for 27 first grade children to encourage them to read.

    NEW GLADSTONE LIONS CLUB FORMING: Lions Dennis Tichenor, Al Scott, and Clyde Wood participated in canvasing the businesses in Gladstone for charter members of the Gladstone. On 12-1-04, the first organization meeting was held at High Rocks Cafe. The 2nd organization meeting will be held at Oxford Suites on Thurday, 12-9-04, from 7:30 am to 8:30 am. We almost have the 20 charter members!

    WINTER SCARFS FOR NEEDY SCHOOL CHILDREN: At the 12-6-04, Christmas Party of the Milwaukie Lions Club, a service project was performed. The club made 24 winter scarfs for needy children of the Seth Lewelling Elementary School.

    WINTER GLOVES FOR NEEDY SCHOOL CHILDREN: The Milwaukie Lions collected 45 pairs of gloves for the needy children at Seth Lewelling Elementary School in Milwaukie at our Nov. 19, 2004 meeting. There are many children at the school that need winter gloves. The gloves have been given to the school office staff and they will distribute them to the children as they deem necessary. In January, we will collect winter hats and caps for the children.

    WINTER HEAT PROVIDED FOR QUADRIPLEGIC LADY AND HER FAMILY: On Nov. 12, 2004, the Lions were made aware of a need for firewood for a needy family. The single mother, a recent quadriplegic has recently come home from a rehab facility after her accident. The family's home is heated by a woodstove. Their oil furnace went out last winter and now they use wood to heat their home. Lion David Kitzmiller immediately stepped up to the plate and delivered about a half a cord of wood to the home the next day!!! Thank you Lion David!!! What an example of the Lion's motto, "WE SERVE" in action!!!

    ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FOOD BASKET DRIVE We are currently working our club's annual signature service project. Last year over 72,000 canned goods were collected and distribed, as well as thousands of pounds of poultry, produce, and vegtables. 600 familes received baskets with an extra 300 boxes of food going to the local food bank. Toys were also distributed to needy families with children. We are in need of financial supporters for this project. If you or your company are able to help in any way in this project, please contact Al Scott at milwaukielions@juno.com or call him at 503-516-3018. Thank you for your support. Dec. 13 - 15, we will need volunteers to pick the food up and deliver it to the warehouse. On Dec. 16, we will need volunteers to help bag the food. On Sat., Dec. 18, we will need volunteers to help deliver the food baskets. The warehouse location is the same as last year, the McLouglin Paza next to the Oak Grove Eight Cinemas on McLoughlin Blvd.

    On Oct. 29, 2004, Friday, the Milwaukie Lions hosted an informational booth at the Oak Grove Elementary School's Fall Fair. Organ donor cards were distributed. Signatures were also collected for the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation's Charitable Checkoff program. Information about Lions Clubs International and the Milwaukie Lions were also distributed.

    On Oct. 18th, 6:30 pm, The Milwaukie Lions hosted an Eyeglass Sorting Party at Port City Development on N. Williams St. in Portland. Approximately 4,000 pairs of eyeglasses were sorted that evening for the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.

    During the month of Sept. 2004, the Milwaukie Lions purchased 9 eyeglasses and 2 sets of hearing aids for the less fortunate in Milwaukie!

    On Sept. 20, 2004, Lion Gale McDonald was presented a Helen Keller Benefactor Award for her unselfish service to our community. Congratulations Gale!!!!

    Sept. 8-11, 2004, USA Canada Forum, Reno, NV The Milwaukie Lions had 5 participants at the forum. Al & Becky Scott, Dennis & Judy Tichenor, and Clyde Wood attended the forum.

    August 20, 2004 was the date of our Milwaukie/Charbonneau Lions Annual Golf Tournament. It was the most successful tournament that we have ever had. Almost $5,000 was raised for the Charbonneau and the Milwaukie Clubs to share for their service projects. A special thanks to all of our sponsors and to our golfers for their support.

    On July 24, 2004, The Milwaukie Lions Club participated in the Milwaukie Riverfest Daze Parade. We had 3 vehicles in the parade, including the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundations Mobile Screening Unit (MSU). The foundations Lion mascot rode in a Corvette with the music, the Lion Sleeps Tonight playing. We had 19 people representing our club in the parade. After the parade, the MSU was available for free health screenings for the public. Three people were diagnosed with high blood pressure, 2 with vision problems, 2 with glaucoma issues, and 4 people with hearing loss.

    On May 17, 2004, The Milwaukie Lions had an EYEGLASS EYE SORTING PARTY at Port City Development in lieu of our regular meeting. Approximately 8,000 pairs of eyeglasses were sorted for the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation.

    DENNIS TICHENOR ENDORSED FOR 2ND INTERNATION VICE PRESIDENT OF LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL. On May 15, 2004, PID Dennis Tichenor was officially endorsed by Multiple District 36. Congratulations to our favorite son, Dennis!!

    We would like to welcome our newest member, Christy Hurt, into the Milwaukie Lions.

    Milwaukie Lion Terry Propst has just been called up to active duty. He will be a mortician for the US Navy in Italy. Please keep Lion Terry in your prayers.

    One of our members, granddaughter learned that our Sight & Hearing Program was low on funds. She went door to door and raised over $50 for our sight and hearing program! We are proud of her and her self initiative.

    THE OLS&H FOUNDATION AWARDS YOUTH GRANTS: The Milwaukie Lions has just received a matching grant to assist two disabled youths in our community. One grant will be used to purchase a wheelchair lift for a quadriplegic child. The funds will also be used to purchase a wheelchair carrier for a youth with MS. This grant allow both families to be able to transport their electric wheelchairs in their community. This opens up an improved quality of life for these wonderful youth! A special thanks to Mark J and to the Wheels to Walk Foundation who partnered with the Milwaukie Lions to make this happen.

    DISTRICT 36-O ENDORSES DENNIS TICHNOR FOR 2ND INTERNATIONAL VICE-PRESIDENT: On Feb. 28, 2004 at the annual District 36-O convention, Milwaukie Lion, PID Dennis Tichenor was officially endorsed by District 36-O for Lions Club International 2nd Vice-President. PDG Sunny Pulley made the motion and Milwaukie Lion Bill Houston seconded the motion for the endorsement.

    WINNER OF YOUNG AMBASSADOR SPEECH CONTEST: On Feb. 28, 2004, Trisha Hall,sponsored by the Milwaukie Lions, won the District 36-O Young Ambassador Speech Contest. Trisha received a $300 scholarship and will compete for a $1500 scholarship at the MD36 Convention!

    DRIFTWOOD SCULPTURE PRESENTED TO OLS&H: On Feb. 28th at the District O Convention, Milwaukie Lion David Kitzmiller made and presented the artwork to Amber Kern of the OLS&H Foundation. It will be displayed at the foundation.

    Milwauke Lions Mint Route: The Milwaukie Lions have taken over a Lion's mint route in Gladstone from the Gladstone Club. Thank you Lion Jeff Solem for servicing this route for our club.

    LIONS DAY AT THE ROSE GARDEN: On 2-8-04, the Milwaukie Lions, along with other clubs, provided volunteers to help man eyeglass recycle boxes at the Portland Trailblazer game. Approximately 1,200 pairs of eyeglasses were collected for the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation. Over 100 volunteers passed out 6,000 donor cards and brochures. The Mobile Screening Unit screened 25 people and 14 were found to have problems. About 1,500 signatures for the Oregon Charitable Check Off were collected from volunteers from U of O Delta Gamma Sorority.

    LOW VISION MAGNIFIER GIVEN TO MILWAUKIE LEDDING LIBRARY, February 2004. On Feb. 1, 2004, The Milwaukie Lions Club purchsed a low vision magnifier. It was donated to our local library to help those with macular degeneration be able to use our library resources.

    EYEGLASS SORTING SUCCESS: On Monday, 2-7-04, the Milwaukie Lions had an Used Eyeglass Sorting Party. Over 6,400 pairs of eyeglasses were sorted for the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation!!! These eyeglasses will go to the needy in other countries. Great work Lions!!!

    DENNIS TICHENOR ENDORSED BY MILWAUKIE LIONS FOR 2ND INTERNATIONAL VICE-PRESIDENT. On Nov. 24, 2003, the Milwaukie Lions board unamimously endorsed it's favorite son, Dennis Tichenor, for 2nd International Vice-President of Lions Clubs International. Dennis' qualifications are numerous. He has held many club offices, regional offices, as well as having served as an International Director for Lions Clubs International. We believe that Dennis displays the strength character and has shown proven leadership skills to lead Lions Clubs International.

    NEW MEMBER INDUCTION CEREMONY was held on Monday, Nov. 17th. We would like to welcome new members Steve Fordyce, Norville Cole, Terri Cole, Terri Peary, Jeff Solem, Al Slaytosch, Bob Clark, and transfer member Clyde Wood. Congratulations to our newest Lions!

    MILWAUKIE LIONS CHARTER NEW CUB SCOUT PACK: On Oct. 20, 2003, the Milwaukie Lions signed papers to charter a new Cub Scout Pack 193 at Seth Lewelling Elementary School in Milwaukie.

    LIBRARY WORK DAY: On Sat., Oct. 25, 2003, we had a successful work day at our Milwaukie Ledding Library. 50 plants were donated and planted by our club to help beautify the grounds. Thank you to all the Lions who helped make this a successful project!

    OAK GROVE SCHOOL HARVEST PARTY: We had a booth at the Oak Grove School's Harvest Celebration on Oct. 24, 2003. Many donor cards were distributed to parents. We also collected many signatures for the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundations petition. We also were able to have our hardware fundraiser display for all to see. Several sales were made. Brochures about the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation and our club were also distributed to interested parties. Our eyeglass recycling box was also available, educating children and parents about the eyeglass recycling program. Thank you Lion Cindy Bennett for arranging this event.>

    EYEGLASS SORTING PARTY: We had a very successful eyeglass sorting party on Oct. 18, 2003. A special thanks to Bill Houston, Candice Houston, Tom Hammond, Bill Cullerton, Dennis Tichenor, Elton Storment, Cindy Bennett, and Al Scott for their work sorting thousands of pairs of used eyeglasses. Three pallets of eyeglasses were sorted! Thank you Port City Development for the use of your building! These eyeglasses will go to third world countries to help those less fortunate.

    Our ANNUAL LIONS GOLF TOURNAMENT on FRIDAY AUGUST 22 2003 was a great success. Over $3700 was raised for the Milwaukie Lions Club and the Charbonneau Lions Club. Thank you for helping make this a great success.

    The Milwauie Lions coordinated the MOBILE SCREENING UNIT (MSU) AT CLACKAMAS COUNTY FAIR, August 12, 13, & 14. Over 170 people received free medical screenings.

    MILWAUKIE CENTENNIAL PARADE: On Saturday, June 21, 2003 the Milwaukie Lions participated in the ciy of Milwaukie's Centennial Parade. The Milwaukie Lions had 19 participants in the parade. Lion Paul Miller drove is 1957 Chevrolet Pickup, which was docorated with Lion's banners and signs. Lion David Kitzmiller drove his Jeep pickup with the Oregon Eyebanks inflatable GIANT EYEBALL attached, which was filled with helium. Lions passed out 200 organ donor cards to adults, as well as many helium filled balloons promoting the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation to children. Lots of candy were tossed to the children who lined the streets of Milwaukie for the parade. Everyone had a wonderful time!

    On June 16,2003, International Director, Bill Rollins installed the new officers of the Milwaukie Lions. ID Bill gave a wonderful challenge to all of our members.

    EYEGLASS SORTING PROJECT: On March 17, 2003 the Milwaukie Lions Club sorted approximately 7,800 pairs of used eyeglasses for the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. The soon to charted Oaks Bottom Lions Club also assisted in this project.

    TROLLY TRAIL PARK CLEAN UP: The Milwaukie Lions assisted in a work day on Sat. March 8, 2003 to help clean up brush and other debris along the Trolley Trail Park along Naef Rd. northward.

    In the year 2002, The Milwaukie Lions purchased 34 pairs of eyeglasses and 17 hearing aids for deserving people. We also sponsored two ladies for cataract surgery throught the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.

    CHRISTMAS FOOD BASKETS: The December 2002 Big Brothers Food Drive was a great success! Over 40,000 cans of food were collected, sorted, and delivered. Appoximately 500 families were blessed with large Christmas food baskets including a turkey or chicken. Toys were also given to families with small children. The families were initially screened by the Salvation Army and referred to our club's service project. A special thanks to the Milwaukie Elks Club and the North Clackamas School District who worked with us on this project.

    WHEELCHAIR RAMP PROJECT: On Sat., August 24, 2002 the Milwaukie Lions Club led by Lion Don Brown built a wheelchair ramp for a disabled Milwaukie resident. The Lions Club purchased the materials and supplied the labor for the this wonderful service project. Thanks to all Lions who helped make this a successful service project!
